Big Changes at IDEAs!

IDEAs has embarked on a number of new ventures in recent years. Now that IDEAs has grown, we decided to change from a Voluntary Organisation to a Company Limited by Guarantee (with charitable status).

Over the years, since its inception in 1992, where respite was offered by volunteers, parents and carers on an ad-hoc basis, IDEAs has developed into the busy organisation it is today with over 10 staff and 30 members. Starting life at Kilarrow, as a small resource Centre in 1997, IDEAs now offer support, advocacy, recreational and training opportunities in-house, outreach community based work, the much publicised lunch club and their latest ventures - the community transport scheme, a market garden project and Islay Garden Care (an offshoot business from their community garden) .

As you can see, there has been great development over a relatively small number of years and it was felt that there was too much responsibility on the shoulders of the voluntary management committee. IDEAs will still be a registered charity and will continue with the many projects they undertake, becoming a limited company will simply relieve the burden of financial responsibility from the management committee.

IDEAs officially became IDEAs Ltd at our EGM on June 21st 2004. The Board of Directors and supporters celebrated the change after signing the official paperwork.
