Luncheon ClubIDEAs Lunch Club In August 2003, IDEAs set up a Luncheon Club for older members of the community. 'Taigh na Greine' ('Sunshine House' in Gaelic) Luncheon Club is held at the IDEAs Resource Centre between 11.30 and 3.30 on Mondays and Fridays. The Lunch Club is open to older citizens in Islay and, for a nominal fee of £3, visitors get accessible transport, tea and coffee, a two course lunch and entertainment as well as the opportunity of socialising with friends and visiting shops, the bank, friends etc in Bowmore.The Lunch club is run by a team of volunteers, some of which are IDEA Centre members. This gives these members the opportunity to develop cookery and hospitality skills. To cope with the demand for the service, the Island has been split into four main areas - Bowmore Area, Port Ellen Area, Rhinns Area and Port Askaig Area, which are served on a fortnightly rota system. i.e.
IDEAs provide accessible transport to all those who wish to come along. Those who prefer to use their own means of transport are welcome to do so but are respectfully requested to come on the day allotted for their area.
